Milwaukee Falls in Road Game at UIC

CHICAGO – With 10 runs in the opening four innings, the UIC Flames won a non-conference contest over the Milwaukee baseball team by an 11-1 score on Tuesday afternoon.

Vidal Colon led the Flames with three RBIs, while James Harris drove in a pair for the home team. The Flames outhit the Panthers, 9-7, and took advantage of a dozen walks including eight over the first four innings to build up their lead.

"We knew going into today, we would have to play clean baseball to have a chance against UIC," commented Shaun Wegner. "We ended up with 12 walks and two HBPs on the mound, while we ended up leaving 11 on base and hit into two double plays … not a recipe for success at any level."

After scoring two runs in the opening inning off Panther starter Riley Peterson, Milwaukee got a run back in the top of the second as Tyler Bickers had a leadoff single and later scored on a wild pitch to trim the UIC lead in half.

The Flames added on with two more runs in both the second and third innings before scoring four in the fourth to take an 8-1 advantage.

Logan Dobberstein pitched scoreless fifth and sixth innings for MKE before Keagon Kaufmann got a double play ball after a leadoff walk to retire the Flames in the seventh.

UIC added its last run in the bottom of the eighth to pick up the 10-run win.

Five pitchers combined to allow just one run for UIC while striking out eight Panthers along the way.

Milwaukee drew six walks on the afternoon including a pair by Justin Hausser, while Sean Tillmon was 3-for-3 with a walk. Bickers had two hits on the day, while Dallan Quigley had Milwaukee's lone extra-base hit with a double in the sixth.

"We need to take a look internally to find what is going to turn the tide this season," Wegner concluded. "It starts with our first home series against Purdue Fort Wayne this weekend."

Milwaukee will host Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday to open the home portion of its schedule. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Franklin Field.
