Panthers Unable to Get Past Air Force in Puerto Rico Clasico Finale

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – The Milwaukee women's basketball team dropped a low-scoring matchup to Air Force on Thursday evening, falling to the Falcons by a 56-40 score at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez.

Milwaukee was led by Anna Lutz, who knocked down a season-best seven field goals, while scoring 16 points. Jada Donaldson also had a nine-point, eight-rebound effort. Kamy Peppler was tied for Donaldson with a team-best eight rebounds, while leading the team with six assists and scored five points.

Both teams struggled to put any sustained success together as the Panthers finished the night making 34.0 percent from the field, while the Falcons connected on just 33.9 percent from the floor. Air Force had five from distance and scored 13 from the free throw line, while Milwaukee made just two three-point shots and were 6-of-11 from the stripe.

The Panthers and Falcons were locked in an early battle with Milwaukee trailing by one at 13-12 after the opening 10 minutes.

Jada Williams gave Milwaukee the lead with a make on a layup just a minute into the second quarter, before Lutz nailed a three-pointer to put the Panthers up a pair at 17-15. Air Force kept the score close and scored the final four points of the half to take a 27-26 lead into the break.

Air Force continued its scoring run with the first six points of the second half to extend the advantage to seven, before Kallie Peppler put an end to the run with a jumper and get MKE within two scores.

Trailing by nine at 37-28, Kamy and Lutz scored the next two buckets to get back within five. The Falcons closed out the quarter with five unanswered to take a 42-32 lead into the fourth.

Milwaukee got off to another quick start with four unanswered in the fourth, but a nine-point outburst by Air Force extended the Falcon lead to 51-36. Lutz put an end to the drought off a high-low feed from Kamy, followed by a driving layup by Kamy but it was not enough as Air Force sank free throws late to seal the victory.

Air Force took advantage of 23 Milwaukee turnovers, scoring 16 points off Panther giveaways. The Falcons also had 13 second-chance points off nine offensive rebounds.

Leading the way for Air Force was Milahnie Perry with 18 points with Madison Smith scoring 12. Keelie O'Hollaren had a strong performance off the bench with 13 points. Jayda McNabb led the way for the Falcons with 10 rebounds.

Williams ended the game with five points for the Panthers, while Kallie ended the night with four points for the Black & Gold. Justina Hernandez had one of five Panther steals on the night.

Milwaukee will shift its attention to Horizon League play for its next three contests, beginning on the road at Youngstown State at 5:30 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Beeghly Center.
