INDIANAPOLIS – On Monday, the Horizon League announced its Player of the Week selections for the eighth week of the 2024 season with Milwaukee defensive specialist
Kara Erdmann earning recognition.
Â
Erdmann put together a record-setting 47-dig performance on Saturday in the team's five-set match against Wright State, as she set both the Horizon League record as well as the Milwaukee record for digs in a match.
Â
The previous Horizon League record was set back during the 1989 season, when Jessica Taylor of Butler had 45 against UIC on Sept. 12 of that season. Milwaukee's record was previously held by Becky Peters, who had 41 in a non-conference match against George Washington on Sept. 15, 2005. Milwaukee's lone other 40-dig performance came from Lauren Felsing, who tallied 40 against Green Bay on Sept. 25, 2009.
Â
The 47-dig performance was also the highest dig total of any student-athlete at the Division I level in 2024, surpassing the 45 digs by Jada Willis of Drake against Bradley on Oct. 18, and the 45 of Peyton DeJardin of California against Syracuse on Oct. 12.
Â
Erdmann appears three times in the top-20 in single-match dig performances on the season, which includes her 38-dig total against Northern Kentucky on Oct. 12 and her 36 against Illinois State on Sept. 13. She ranks third in all of Division I with 450 total digs, and fourth in digs per set at 5.42.
Â
A day prior to her record-setting afternoon, she helped Milwaukee to a five-set win over the Raiders as she notched a 30-dig total against Wright State. Erdmann also added 11 assists and made 42 receptions on 46 serving attempts sent her way while helping the Panthers to a 1-1 week.
Â
This is Erdmann's first career recognition by the Horizon League, while it is also the team's first honor of the season.
Â
Milwaukee returns to action on Tuesday evening, when the Panthers travel to nearby Marquette for a 7:00 p.m. start at the Al McGuire Center.
