Milwaukee Swim & Dive Returns to Competition With Pair of Weekend Meets

Panthers travel to Green Bay on Saturday to continue 'Battle of I-43'

January 25, 2024

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee's men's and women's swimming & diving teams return to competition this Friday and Saturday with meets against Illinois State and conference foe Green Bay.

On Friday, Milwaukee's diving teams will travel to Brown Deer to face Illinois State in a diving-only meet at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center. Dives are scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.

On Saturday, the Panthers will travel to compete at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium in Green Bay, Wisconsin for their lone remaining road meet before the Horizon League Championships in February. Events are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.

Scouting the Opponents –

Illinois State – The Redbirds come into Friday's dive only match 4-1 as a team, with wins over Eastern Illinois, Ohio, UIC, and Northern Iowa. The lone common opponent between the two programs is UIC, against whom Milwaukee also earned a win when they hosted the Flames at the end of October.

One name stands out when looking at the Redbirds' diving squad. Eva Reyes has had an extremely strong season so far, winning Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week honors twice so far. Reyes holds the programs second best 3m mark with a score of 301.50 that she earned earlier this season.

Green Bay – Milwaukee has faced Green Bay once so far this season when they hosted the Wisconsin Showcase on October 21st. Though no team scores were recorded for the meet, Milwaukee dominated the competition, winning multiple events throughout the day.

The Phoenix men are currently 3-1, while the women sit at 2-3. The teams will travel to Wisconsin to face the Badgers on Friday evening before returning home to face the Panthers.

The only common opponent, other than those at the Wisconsin Showcase, is Indiana State. The Sycamores made a weekend trip to face both women's teams in mid-October, defeating the Panthers and Phoenix on back-to-back days. Milwaukee fell 225.5-74.5, while Green Bay lost by a score of 239-61.

Last Time Out –

The Panthers last competed all the way back in mid-November at the IUPUI House of Champions Invitational. The meet took place over three days from November 16th-18th and saw Milwaukee finish second on the women's side and fifth on the men's. The women's team recorded 935.5 points, falling only to Ball State, while the men's team recorded 824 points, just seven shy of fourth-place finisher UIC.

Conference Championships Coming Soon –

After this Saturday's competition, Milwaukee has just two more dual meets before the Horizon League Championships. The Panthers host St. Thomas and Stevens Point on February 2nd and 3rd in the Klotsche Natatorium.
