LEXINGTON, Ky. – On Thursday, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its Team Academic Award recipients for the 2022-23 season, with the Milwaukee volleyball team being selected as one of the 201 Division I programs to earn team recognition.
 
This is the 16th time that Milwaukee has been recognized with the Team Academic Award since the AVCA began issuing following the 1992-93 academic year. The Panthers' first award came following the 1994-95 season, while the team is being recognized for the ninth consecutive season in 2022-23.
 
In addition to being selected for the Academic Award, the team was also in the top 20 percent of Division I and earned a spot on the Academic Award Honor Roll. This is the program's fifth consecutive year on the honor roll, which is tied for the second longest active streak in receiving top distinction.
 
The Team Academic Award honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. The Panthers recorded a team GPA of 3.67 in the fall semester, and a 3.71 in the spring term.
 
Eight of the Horizon League's 10 volleyball programs earned Team Academic Honors, while Milwaukee was one of just three Horizon League members to earn Honor Roll distinction.
 
Milwaukee's season will get underway on Friday, August 25, when the team travels to Kalamazoo, Michigan to take on host Western Michigan at 5:00 p.m. (CT).
