FLORENCE, Ala. – The Milwaukee baseball team wrapped up its three-game trip to North Alabama on Sunday afternoon and fell by a 14-6 score.
Â
The Panthers had nine hits on the day including a pair by
Nate DeYoung, who connected on his first home run of the season and 10th of his career as he drove in two.
Marcus Cline had his second career home run as he drove in the first three runs of the game for the Panthers.
Â
Eliot Turnquist got the start and tossed two shutout innings for the Panthers and did not allow a run, while striking out one.
Mike Sullivan also tossed a scoreless seventh inning and struck out three, while
James Severson got the final out for the Panthers in the bottom of the eighth.
Â
"We talk about playing the ball and not the scoreboard or opponent, today was disappointing in that regard," said head coach
Scott Doffek. "We completely beat ourselves on the mound and ultimately didn't give ourselves a chance in that game."
Â
In addition to Sullivan making his Panther debut, three other pitchers made their collegiate debuts as
Tyler Deleskiewicz,
DJ Kojis and
Owen Rice all took the mound for the first time in a Panther uniform. Also making his debut was
Carson Hansen, who popped out in the eighth inning.
Â
"It was good to get a handful of our newcomers in there", added Doffek. "Hopefully that will be a step in getting them some confidence moving forward".
Â
After Turnquist made his way through the first two innings, the Lions put up eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to take their first lead of the series.
Â
Milwaukee got back on the board with four runs of their own in the top of the fifth, highlighted by Cline's home run. North Alabama scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and bottom of the sixth to take a 12-4 lead.
Â
In the top of the seventh, the Panthers put up a pair as
Aaron Chapman walked followed by DeYoung's home run to cut the deficit in half at 12-6.
Â
North Alabama added two late runs in the bottom of the eight to win the game by a 14-6 score.
Â
Milwaukee (2-1) will be out on the West Coast next as the Panthers visit Pacific in Stockton, California for a three-game series beginning with a single game on Friday evening, with first pitch slated for 7 p.m. (CST).
