INDIANAPOLIS – On Monday the Horizon League announced its weekly award winners for the third week of the 2023-24 season with Milwaukee's
Jorey Buwalda earning Freshman of the Week honors for the first time in her career.

This past week Buwalda helped the Panthers to a 2-0 mark with convincing wins over both Edgewood on Tuesday and Central Michigan on Saturday.

She shot 72.7 percent from the field with eight makes in 11 attempts including the first three pointer of her career on Saturday against the Chippewas in a game that the Panthers set a program record for three pointers in a regulation game with 17.

The first-year student-athlete averaged 21 minutes per game and pulled down 12 rebounds on the week while also picking up one assist and two steals. From the free throw line, Buwalda went unblemished in two attempts.

Through her first seven career games, Buwalda has made five starts and averaged just shy of 20 minutes per game (19.9). She is fourth on the team with 21 made field goals and is among the team leaders at 52.5 percent from the field. She leads the team with 53 rebounds for an average of 7.6 per contest, third best in the Horizon League, while also chipping in with four assists, six steals, and a pair of blocks.

Milwaukee is currently riding a four-game winning streak into the team's conference opener on Thursday evening, when the Panthers host the Green Bay Phoenix for a 7:00 p.m. start at the Klotsche Center.
