MILWAUKEE – Clara Broecker,
Kendall Edwards,
Lainey Higgins,
Molly O'Regan,
Brooke Parnello, and
Kat Van Booven of the Milwaukee women's soccer team have been named to the 2023 Academic All-District Soccer Team, selected by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), the organization announced today.
It's a repeat selection for the trio of Broecker, Higgins, and Van Booven and a career-first for the rest of the honorees.
Broecker, a Mechanical Engineering major with a near-perfect GPA, has been a key piece and everyday starter on the defense her entire career. A First-Team All-Horizon League selection this fall after a career-best 12 points (4G/4A), she has also earned a spot on the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll honoree every semester eligible.
Edwards is a Kinesiology major and was named the Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year this season as well as First-Team All-League. She ranked second overall with her 0.91 goals-against average and eight shutouts. In league play she was spectacular, topping all conference goalies with her 0.52 GAA, .865 save percentage, and five shutouts.
Higgins earns a repeat spot after another stellar campaign. A Kinesiology major with a near-perfect GPA, she was named First Team All-Horizon League after an 18-point campaign (6G/6A) in which she finished second in league-only games with 14 points and led the way with six assists.
O'Regan is also a Kinesiology major who enjoyed a breakout season this fall. In league-only games, she finished fourth with 12 points and was tied for second with five goals.
Parnello capped her career with a strong campaign, picking up Second-Team All-Horizon League honors after setting career highs with 11 points (4G/3A). Named the Horizon League Tournament MVP after scoring the only goal in the 1-0 win in the championship, she has also been a Horizon League Academic Honor Roll member and is currently pursuing her MBA.
Van Booven repeats on the CSC squad after an impressive showing in which she was named First-Team All-Horizon League after tying for fourth in the league with 16 points and tying for second with six assists. The Engineering major has also been named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll honoree every semester eligible.
As members of the First Team in District 6, they will move on to the national ballot next month. That team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
