Horizon League Names Madi Malone Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – On Monday the Horizon League announced its 12th set of weekly award winners for the 2023 season with Milwaukee junior Madi Malone picking up her fourth honor on the season.
 
Malone helped the Panthers clinch the third seed in the Horizon League Championship with a 1-1 week for the Panthers, culminating with a three-set win over Oakland on Saturday at the Klotsche Center.
 
Malone led the Panthers with 36 kills on the week for an average of 5.14 kills per set over Milwaukee's seven sets played against Cleveland State and Oakland. Malone had a team-best .425 hitting percentage over that span with just five errors on 73 attempts.
 
The junior also led the Panthers with four service aces on the week while adding 24 digs, with 14 on Friday and 10 on Saturday to give her 14 double-doubles on the season. Malone also assisted on two blocks in each contest to give her four for the week.
 
Malone finished the regular season in second place in the Horizon League with 411 kills, with an average of 3.34 set and was also in the top-15 in hitting percentage at .256. She also was fourth in the conference with 459 points, just two shy of being in third, while she averaged better than 3.7 points per set.


This year she has 25 assists, 23 service aces, and 47 total blocks to add to her offensive attacking totals.
 
In 93 career matches, Malone now has 1,088 career kills and a .229 hitting percentage. She also had 886 digs during her three seasons with the team, and has also recorded 105 blocks, 58 assists, and 58 service aces. She now 1,201 career points, averaging just shy of 3.50 per set.
 
This is Malone's fourth Player of the Week honor this season, and sixth of her career. She joins Ari Miller as the two Panthers to earn recognition from the Horizon League this season, as Miller was a three-time selection during the season.
 
Milwaukee opens the Horizon League postseason as the three seed and will take on sixth-seeded Cleveland State beginning at 2:00 p.m. (CT) at the CJ McLin Gymnasium in Dayton, Ohio.
