Horizon League Announces 2023-24 Preseason Poll; Nead Tabbed All-League Honoree

October 18, 2023

INDIANAPOLIS – On Wednesday, the Horizon League announced its 2023-24 preseason poll and Preseason All-League selections. Junior Kendall Nead was named as an All-League honoree as the Panthers were projected to finish sixth as voted upon by the 11 Horizon League head coaches.

Nead earned a spot on the Preseason All-League Second Team following a season that saw the Iowa native lead the team in scoring as she averaged 11.1 points per game over the team's 30 contests. Nead shot better than 40 percent from the field with a team-best 138 field goals, including 26 from beyond the arc.

As a sophomore, Nead also finished third on the team with 133 rebounds and rounded out her stat line with 46 assists, 17 steals, and seven blocks. She is also Milwaukee's returning leader in minutes played with an average of 28.9 minutes per contest in 2022-23.

Nead, alongside 2022-23 Horizon League All-Freshman Team honoree Kamy Peppler, lead a group of 11 returners along with the five newcomers into the 2023-24 season under the direction of Kyle Rechlicz, who enters her 12th season as the leader of the Panther squad.

Milwaukee was selected to finish in sixth position, one slot higher from where the team finished in the regular season standings at the conclusion of last season. The Panthers received 59 votes, and finished ahead of Wright State (54), Oakland (53), IUPUI (49), Detroit Mercy (21), and Robert Morris (14).

Green Bay was selected in the top spot of the preseason poll with 121 points, followed by Cleveland State (107), Youngstown State (95), Purdue Fort Wayne (90), with Northern Kentucky (63) rounding out the top-five.

Milwaukee's season gets underway on Tuesday, November 7, when the Panthers visit Wisconsin for a 6:30 p.m. start. The team will open the home schedule on Sunday, November 12 at 2 p.m. versus UIC. Horizon League play will begin at the Klotsche Center on Thursday, November 30, when the Panthers welcome in Green Bay for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
