FRANKLIN, Wis. – Wright State rallied for two runs in the ninth and took the lead in the 10th to top the Milwaukee baseball team on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field.
The Panthers held a 5-3 advantage through eight innings, but the Raiders got to closer
AJ Blubaugh, who worked two scoreless frames prior, for four runs.
In the tenth, Milwaukee got cut the deficit to one as
Nate DeYoung crossed on a passed ball. With runners on the corners, Chis VandenHeuvel lifted a fly ball to left but it fell short at the warning track and the Panthers dropped the finale.
Early on, both teams traded runs in the first inning before Panthers' starter
Jack Mahoney settled down.
The senior struck out four and kept the Raiders hitless in the next four innings to keep the Panthers close.
Tied 3-3 through six, Milwaukee took advantage of Wright State miscues and scoring on a passed ball before drawing a bases-loaded walk for a 5-3 lead.
Blubaugh entered in the seventh and pitched two cleaning innings, striking out three before the Raiders got to him in the ninth.
WSU rallied for two runs on two hits and a pair of walks to tie it and an inning later, Raiders' Avery Fisher pushed a two-out single up the middle to score two for a 7-5 lead.
Milwaukee drew a school record 15 walks as a team including three from both
Ty Olejnik and
Mitchell Buban.
The Panthers celebrated six seniors in Buban,
Mike Edwards,
Conner Goodman,
Adam LaRock,
Jack Mahoney, and
Zach Nogalski. Milwaukee closed the season with a 20-30 overall record and 9-18 mark in the Horizon League.
