ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland roughed up the Milwaukee baseball pitching staff on Sunday as the Panthers surrendered a season-high 17 runs in a 17-8 setback on Sunday.
"It's not going to look like it from a distance, but we did a lot of good things in that game," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "Unfortunately, most of the game revolves around pitching and we were not good in any way from the onset. When that's how you perform, that's the result you are going to get."
The Panthers (16-23, 5-12 HL) struggled from the mound as a whole with seven different pitchers toeing the rubber against Oakland and four being charged for at least one earned run.
Milwaukee did pull in front early as
Aaron Chapman lined a three-run shot in the first and
Nate DeYoung added a two-run homer in the third, but then Oakland got to the Panthers' bullpen.
The Golden Grizzlies (21-21, 11-8 HL) put up five runs on six hits in the fourth and followed with seven runs on eight hits in the fifth to take a 13-5 advantage.
Oakland added three more over the next two frames before Milwaukee scored again.
An eighth-inning homer from
Quinton Morris and ninth-inning blast from
Caleb Lorbecki highlighted the Panthers' final runs, but the gap was too big to overcome and MKE fell in the finale.
Mark Connelly and Olejnik each had two hits for the Panthers while the Chapman and DeYoung homers drove in five total.
The four homers by the Panthers marked the second most in a game this season.
Milwaukee will be back in action on Tuesday as it hosts St. Thomas in a 3:00 pm doubleheader from Franklin Field. Live coverage links available on
