MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee baseball team pushed across five runs in the first two innings and seven pitchers combined to shut down MSOE in a 5-2 victory at American Family Field on Wednesday night.
The Panthers, who returned to the Major League park for the first time since 2019, improved to 19-11 at American Family Field.
"It is just a great opportunity to get in an incredible first-class facility like this. It's an honor, really," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "To me, they [MSOE] stood out as a really well-coached team so a lot of respect to Flip and his program, he's doing a great job."
Freshman
Justin Hausser put Milwaukee (15-20) in the driver's seat in the first as he ripped a single to center field for a 2-0 lead.
Nate DeYoung followed with another single up the middle to score Hausser and MKE took a three-run lead after one.
On the mound,
Jack Mahoney got his first start since late February and took credit for the win after striking out four batters and allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings of work.
In the second,
Mitchell Buban added to the lead as he laced a two-run shot to left field and the 5-0 lead was all the Panthers would need.
"A bomb anywhere is awesome and to do it in a big league park is pretty special," Doffek said.
Six more pitchers worked the rest of the way for Milwaukee as the Panthers held the Raiders (17-14) to just two hits across the final five innings.
AJ Blubaugh picked up his second save of the year with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth. MKE pitchers combined for a season-high 16 strikeouts.
After tallying five runs on five hits through two innings, the Milwaukee bats fell silent with just one more hit the rest of the way.
"I give them credit. They did a good job with the strike zone. It gets tough sometimes when you see a different arm every time through the order," Doffek said. "They did a good job and kept us off balance.
Buban reached base four times for the Panthers as he was hit by a pitch twice, walked once, and hit the second-inning homer.
Hausser and
Mark Connelly also reached base multiple times for MKE.
The Panthers will next head to Michigan for a three-game series with Oakland beginning on Friday, April 29. Live coverage links available on
