UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –
AJ Blubaugh was dominant on the mound and the Milwaukee baseball team woke up its offense with 12 hits in a 12-0 shutout of Penn State.
"Great team win, and it starts with a great outing from AJ [Blubaugh]," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "He was excellent from the first pitch on. We got a ton of contributions up and down the lineup and the guys did a great job of putting quality bats together all game."
The Panthers (6-8 overall) got it going early, putting up four runs in the first inning behind back-to-back RBI singles from
Aaron Chapman and
Nate DeYoung.
That was all Blubaugh would need as he was nearly untouchable on Sunday afternoon. The sophomore finished with four strikeouts and no walks across seven scoreless innings. Blubaugh took a no-hitter into the fifth and allowed just three hits overall.
MKE continued to pile it on with three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. Chapman drove in three runs in those two innings and finished the day 3-for-4 with five RBI.
Jack Thelen and
Ty Olejnik also had multi-hit games for MKE. Thelen went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk while Olejnik finished 2-for-4 with two walks and three runs scored in the leadoff spot.
Logan Schulfer and Andrew Neu closed it strong out of the bullpen, each recording a scoreless inning. Schulfer worked two strikeouts while Neu needed just nine pitches in the ninth.
The Panthers will gear up for a busy week next, heading to Valparaiso on Wednesday before getting into Horizon League play with a weekend series at UIC.
