TUCSON, Ariz. – The Milwaukee baseball team scored six early runs on Sunday afternoon, but Arizona responded and capitalized in the fourth inning to hand the Panthers an 8-6 setback in the series finale.
"We did a bunch of good things today," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "Unfortunately, we didn't execute on defense and it cost us. These guys didn't look prepared at times and that falls on me. We have to get better and we will."
In the first,
Aaron Chapman had MKE on the board first with an RBI single to score
Mark Connelly but the Wildcats responded with four in the bottom half.
The Panthers bounced back in the second, scoring five on four hits including RBI doubles from
Zach Nogalski and
Jake Novak to put MKE back on top 6-4.
After the big first inning,
Eliot Turnquist calmed down and finished with five strikeouts and zero walks in three complete innings.
In the fourth, Arizona led off with a home run and rallied for three more runs on three hits and a pair of MKE errors for an 8-6 lead.
Ryan Hoerter took the ball in relief and allowed just two earned runs, striking out three in four innings pitched. Hoerter was credited for the loss in the outing.
Nate DeYoung and
Andy Neu combined for the final inning, striking out one and walking one in the eighth.
Conner Goodman finished 3-for-5 with an RBI single.
Justin Hausser earned his first collegiate start and finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Panthers next head to Provo, Utah to take on BYU in a three-game series beginning on Thursday, March 3.
