Miscues Doom Panthers at Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Turnovers hurt the Milwaukee women's basketball team on Thursday night and Cleveland State capitalized to hand the Panthers a 67-55 setback at the Wolstein Center.

The Panthers finished with a season-high 25 turnovers which turned into 34 points for the Vikings.

"That was probably the most disappointed I've been this season because of our mentality and our attitude," head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "We're so much better than that."

MKE (13-15, 12-9 Horizon League) had trouble getting going on the offensive end, going just 2-for-16 (12.5 percent) in the first quarter as CSU (19-6, 14-5 Horizon League) pulled in front 15-8.

Shots started to fall for the Panthers in the second, but the Vikings had a match for each point Milwaukee put up.

Kendall Nead provided a nice spark, knocking down three triples on three of four straight possessions to cut into the CSU lead but it was Vikings ahead 38-27 at the half.

Megan Walstad knocked down a jumper early in the third to cut the deficit to seven, but Cleveland State quickly responded with an 8-0 run to go back up double digits.

The turnovers continued to pile up for the Panthers and Cleveland State continued to take advantage, holding the double figure lead the rest of the way.

After pulling in 11 rebounds in the first quarter, Walstad finished with a career-high 19 on the night including 12 on the offensive end. It marks the most rebounds in a game for MKE since Steph Kostowicz grabbed 20 in 2015.

Walstad added 15 points on 7-for-15 shooting as well as two assists, one steal, and a block.

Nead went 3-for-5 from long range, finishing with a career-high 15 points.

The Panthers wrap up the regular season on Saturday as they head to Purdue Fort Wayne for a 1:00 pm CT tipoff.
