MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee volleyball team had a hard time keeping up with league-leading Wright State on Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision at the Klotsche Center.
Milwaukee was held to a .133 attack percentage while Wright State hit .350 in the win.
Bri Geurts was on fire in the first, landing four kills in five swings, but Wright State stretched its lead to seven points at 19-12 and never looked back for a 25-19 win.
The Raiders (21-3, 13-0 Horizon League) upped that in the second, hitting .472 with just one error. The Panthers were hanging tough before a 4-0 run put WSU up 15-8.
Maddie Moan landed a kill to stop the spurt, but Wright State roared back with a 10-0 run to end it and put MKE in a 2-0 hole.
Milwaukee's biggest threat came in the third behind six kills from
Natalie Schmitz, but Wright State used an early lead to keep the Panthers (8-17, 7-7 Horizon League) at bay 25-18.
Schmitz led with nine kills while Geurts totaled eight kills and a .412 attack percentage. The sophomore added four blocks and two digs.
Kara Erdmann led the defense with 12 digs while
Sarah Schrader recorded nine.
Kaley Blake and
Josie Johnson combined for 26 assists and seven digs.
Milwaukee will next host Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday, October 29 at 6:00 pm to wrap up its three-match homestand.
