MILWAUKEE – Haley Johnson and
Lainey Higgins of the Milwaukee women's soccer team have been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team, announced today by the league office.
For Johnson, the award marks a fourth straight season she has been honored, earning top-team status in 2019 and 2020 and honorable mention in 2021. The award is a career-first for Higgins.
Johnson is enjoying a stellar final season with the Panthers, sitting second on the team with 13 points, having scored five goals while adding three assists. She sits tied for fifth in the Horizon League in both scoring and goals, and was named Horizon League Player of the Week this Monday after scoring the only goal in a key 1-0 victory Oakland. The psychology major is also Top 5 in the league in shots and shots on goal and has been named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll every semester she has been eligible.
After appearing in all 21 games off the bench a season ago, Higgins has emerged as a full-time starter and key piece of the MKE offensive attack this season. The kinesiology major sits fourth on the team with her 12 points, but leads the Horizon League and is in the Top 50 nationally across the NCAA with her eight assists. She was also named the Horizon League Player of the Week earlier this fall.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests. An Honorable Mention team is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
