Panthers And Wildcats Play To 1-1 Draw

MKE back at it on Saturday

EVANSTON, Ill. – Emil Lindgren Pedersen scored in the first half to help the Milwaukee men's soccer team play Northwestern to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium.

The Panthers (1-7-6) continue to play solid soccer overall but once again fall victim to a draw against the Wildcats (2-7-5), setting a new program record with a sixth overall tie on the 2022 campaign.

The MKE offense had the better of it from the start and had a couple of early chances by Logan Farrington turned away. The team continued to press and nearly witnessed a different start to the contest, seeing Colin Alba bang one off the crossbar in the 23rd minute.

The goal came shortly after in the 31st minute and was started down the right side by Abdu Regassa. After controlling the ball against the defense, he sent a pass back to Dontell Gilyard. Gilyard centered the ball to David Cox, pinging it forward to the front of goal.

That was where Lindgren Pedersen was lurking, one-timing a right-footed shot into the net for his fifth goal of the season at the 30:20 mark.

Nick Chiappa came up with a couple of big saves in the 55th and 57th minutes but then was unlucky on the goal. That strike came after the save at the 56:29 mark after a diving stop of the initial shot from distance. The rebound went right to NU's Joseph Arena, who's flying header made it a new game at 1-1.

Milwaukee had the better run of play the rest of the way but the deadlock remained over the final 32-plus minutes.

For the game, MKE was edged in shots, 10-9, and shots on goal, 4-3, despite carrying 55 percent of total possession. The Wildcats also had eight of the 12 corner kicks. Farrington paced the offense with five shots, with Chiappa finishing with three total saves.

Up next, the team heads to Northern Kentucky Saturday, set for a 12 p.m. CST kickoff.
