INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Milwaukee volleyball team rolled in set one against No. 19 UCLA but ultimately fell 3-1 at the Bulldog Brawl on Saturday afternoon.
"We were really good in the first set and had a solid game plan," head coach
Susie Johnson commented. "They were forced to make adjustments, but they did a good job of that to win."
The Panthers (6-6 overall) carried momentum from Friday into the match, hitting an impressive .478 with just two attack errors in the first. Tied 14-14,
Sarah Schrader served up three aces and MKE took advantage of multiple Bruins' attack errors in a 25-15 triumph.
UCLA (7-1 overall) made the adjustments, however, and opened the second on a 6-1 run. The Bruins never looked back and racked up six blocks and 17 digs to keep the Panthers at bay and even the match 1-1.
It was a similar story in the third as the Milwaukee errors continued to pile up. UCLA jumped in front early and the Panthers never recovered in a 25-17 setback.
UCLA was flawless in the fourth, putting away 17 kills without a miscue to put away the set 25-11 and the match 3-1.
Regardless of the opponent,
Ari Miller continued to impress, hitting .393 with 14 kills. The junior was named to the Bulldog Brawl All-Tournament Team.
Carmen Heilemann joined Miller on the All-Tournament team as she added 10 kills. In three matches, Heilemann hit .364 with 3.08 kills per set.
Vaughn recorded her third double-double of the weekend with 20 assists and a team-high 13 digs.
