Panthers Sign Samba Kane To Roster Spot

Center spent last season at USF

MILWAUKEE – Samba Kane has signed with Milwaukee and will join the roster of the men's basketball team, head coach Pat Baldwin announced today.

"Samba is a welcomed addition to our Panther family," Baldwin said. "He is a great young man, humble beyond measure, and an excellent teammate."

Kane, a 7-foot center, comes to Milwaukee after spending last season at the University of San Francisco.

"We were aggressive in our pursuit for more size in our frontcourt and Samba helps us in that area," Baldwin said. "We are eager to work with him and continue to mold his game."

Kane played in 23 games with the Dons in 2020-21, making four starts while averaging 2.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.6 minutes per contest as a junior. He shot an impressive 62.2 percent (28-of-45) from the floor, while also recording 0.6 blocks per game (13 total). He posted a season-high 10 points and added seven rebounds in a win over Towson and had two-or-more blocks in four different outings.

Kane played the 2019-20 season at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. He played in 24 games, averaging 5.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He connected on 59.4 percent (63-of-106) of his field-goal attempts, blocking 29 total shots in just 13.8 minutes per contest. He had a season-high 17 points in mid-December against Missouri State-West Plains, connecting on all eight shots in just 15 minutes of action. He finished in double-figures in scoring on seven occasions as a sophomore, posting a season-high four blocks in a pair of games.

Freshman year was played at Illinois, averaging 1.5 points on 59.1 percent (13-of-22) shooting from the floor. He never did get much chance to shine, averaging less than five minutes in the 18 contests he appeared. He did have 10 total blocks and put up a season-best eight points (4-5 FG) against UNLV and four blocks against Iowa.
