MILWAUKEE – Markeith Browning has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Milwaukee men's basketball team, head coach
Pat Baldwin officially announced today.
"Markeith is a great addition to our program because he's athletic, he brings great versatility to the guard position, he's been well coached, and he knows how to win," Baldwin said. "We are very excited about what he brings to the table and I know he will compete and help us win games. Our fans will love how hard Markeith plays."
Browning comes to Milwaukee following one year at Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas, and will have four seasons of eligibility with the Panthers. While there, he enjoyed a tremendous freshman campaign with the Red Ravens, culminating with a national championship as the team topped Cowley College in the NJCAA Division I title game by a final score of 108-99.
"He was a part of one of the premier junior college programs in the country, winning a National Junior College Championship this past season," Baldwin said. "That championship DNA will permeate throughout our team, on and off the floor."
His team started 13-0 and finished 27-3 overall, also claiming the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) regular-season title. Browning made 26 starts in 30 games, averaging 8.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. The 6-foot-4-inch guard shot 46.4 percent (98-of-211) from the floor, connecting on 64.1 percent (41-of-64) of his free throw attempts.
He scored in double-figures on 10 occasions, including a season-high 23 points in the NJCAA semifinal round overtime win over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa. Two games later, he posted an 11 point/3 rebound/3 assist/3 steal statline in the title game.
Browning went to prep school at TSF in Georgia and played his final prep season at Ypsilanti (Mich.) High School, averaging 13.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game after transferring from South Cobb High School in Georgia.
