MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision to Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon as the Norse's Griffin Doersching hit a deciding two-run homer in the seventh inning.
"We are just not playing complementary baseball right now," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "Got a great start out of Jack [Mahoney] and when we had opportunities, we couldn't capitalize to support him."
Jack Mahoney earned the start on Saturday and had a strong outing of six innings scattering five hits and allowing just one earned run while striking out seven before the Norse got to the Panthers' bullpen.
After Andrew Neu issued a walk to open the seventh, Doersching took a 1-2 pitch to left field to put NKU up 3-1.
James Severson entered and did not allow a hit in 2.2 innings, but four walks hurt as Northern Kentucky added two insurance runs in the ninth to pull in front 5-1.
Early on after Mahoney and NKU's Kyle Klingenbeck battled through three scoreless,
Jack Kraus ripped a solo home run to center field to put MKE on top 1-0.
Klingenbeck was lights out the rest of the way, however, as he pitched a complete game allowing just seven hits and the one earned run while striking out a career-high eight.
Nate DeYoung finished 3-for-4 on the day for Milwaukee.
Milwaukee and Northern Kentucky will meet for a 12:00 pm doubleheader tomorrow to close the series. Links for all coverage can be found on
