MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee baseball team recorded just two hits on Sunday, dropping a 7-0 decision to UIC in the series finale.
"The story of the weekend was their pitching and our lack of ability to swing the bats," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "They beat us in every phase, coaching included."
The Flames' Bobby Nicholson threw 4.2 no-hit innings before
Nate DeYoung dumped a single into left center field to break it up.
Nicholson responded to get a groundout on the following pitching and blanked the Panthers (15-20, 12-12 Horizon League) the rest of the way. He allowed just one more hit and struck out five in 8.0 innings to pick up his second win of the year.
Matt McCarty earned the start for the Panthers and kept Milwaukee close as he scattered seven hits and struck out four allowing just one earned run.
"I thought McCarty through the ball pretty darn well. They had seven hits on him, but I don't think four of them left the infield."
The Flames (18-15, 17-10 Horizon League) tacked on two unearned runs in the sixth and got to the bullpen for four more to make it 7-0.
Conner Goodman accounted for the other Panthers' hit, as he ripped a two-out double down the left field line.
Jake Armstrong came out of the bullpen to toss a scoreless ninth inning for Milwaukee, striking out a pair in the final frame.
Milwaukee will wrap up its 16-game homestand this weekend as it hosts Oakland in a four-game series beginning on Friday, April 30. Live coverage links can be found on
