MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee baseball team tallied eight hits but could not string them together as it dropped the series finale to Illinois State 10-2 on Sunday.
 
"We gave up too many free bases and put ourselves in peril," head coach Scott Doffek said. "They did a good job of getting guys on, getting them over, and hitting them in and really, we didn't. Early on, we had some opportunities but just failed to get them in."
 
The Panthers (15-16) finished the game 2-for-17 with runners on base on in the loss.
 
"If we are going to swing the bat like that, we have to be almost perfect on the mound and today, we certainly weren't," Doffek continued.
 
Early on, the two teams traded runs in the first before the Redbirds added another on a sacrifice fly in the second to take the lead for good.
 
Illinois State (13-21) would go on to put up two runs on four separate occasions to continue to build its lead.
 
In the fourth, Jack Kraus led off with a deep double to right center and Mitchell Buban laced one down the line to score him, but that was all the Panthers could push across.
 
Both Kraus and Buban each had two hits for Milwaukee.
 
Jake Armstrong had a solid appearance out of the bullpen for the Panthers, allowing just one hit and striking out one in two scoreless innings.
 
Patrick Tomfohrde also had a scoreless inning, striking out one in the eighth.
 
The Panthers will return to Horizon League action next weekend as they welcome UIC to Franklin Field for a four-game series. Game one is set for Friday, April 23 at 4:00 pm. Live coverage links can be found on MKEPanthers.com.
