MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Trailing by four, the Milwaukee baseball team rallied for five hits and five runs in the seventh inning to earn a 7-6 comeback victory over Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon.
"We didn't do a very good job in the box early, but then we just started to relax a little bit and started stacking some quality at-bats together," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "Then we strung some together in the seventh and came back and stole one."
Mitchell Buban singled to lead off the seventh and a
Conner Goodman walk chased Penguins' starter Jon Snyder. After a wild pitch moved the runners over,
Mike Ferri singled in the pair to cut into the deficit.
Jack Cavanaugh then drove in a run with a groundout to the right side before
Jack Kraus put Milwaukee in front for good with a two-out single up the middle.
AJ Blubaugh entered and rolled through the eighth with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts. He then worked around a leadoff single in the ninth, striking out the final two batters on his way to a six-out save, his fourth of the season.
"We were a little overaggressive which allowed the leadoff guy on but AJ just executed some really huge pitches with a guy on second base which ultimately gave us the win," Doffek said.
Early on, Milwaukee had a hard time stringing together hits against Snyder as he totaled nine strikeouts through five innings.
Once the Panthers chased Snyder, they tagged Dalton Earich and Joel Hake for four hits and three charged runs, all in the seventh inning.
YSU got on the board first on Saturday with a 3-0 lead through four before
Nick Winter doubled in Ferri and
Conner Goodman.
The Penguins responded with three runs in the sixth to go up four before the Panthers' rally.
Buban, Ferri, and
Zach Nogalski each tallied two hits for the Panthers.
Jake Armstrong picked up the win for Milwaukee, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
The series between the Panthers and Penguins will wrap up tomorrow with first pitch slated for 12:00 pm. Live coverage links can be found on
