GREEN BAY, Wis. – Maggy Henschler scored twice in the first 24 minutes of the match to jump-start the Milwaukee women's soccer team on its way to a 6-0 victory over Green Bay Tuesday afternoon at Alda Santaga Stadium.
Henschler propelled the start for the Panthers (6-1), who also got two second-half goals from
Natalie Auble to down the Phoenix (1-3) for the third straight season and improve to 5-0-1 over the last six meetings in the series.
"Today was a great team effort," head coach
Troy Fabiano said. "It was nice to see many of the things we have focused on in training translate to the game. We had some excellent finishes both in the run of play and on set pieces."
Henschler and
Gaby Schwartz connected on each of the first two goals, with Henschler converting a pair of Schwartz free kicks into a 2-0 lead before the game hit the 24-minute mark. For Schwartz, it was team-leading assists numbers six and seven of the season.
Rachel Phillpotts then added a third before the match hit the half, finding the back of the net at the 29:39 mark off an assist by
Haley Steel.
Auble jumped into the action in the second half, scoring in the 55
th and 67
th minutes.
Jelena Sever also added a goal on a penalty kick in the 60
th minute to make it 6-0, giving the team a season-best for goals scored with over 23 minutes left in the match.
In the end, MKE dominated the stat sheet, finishing the contest with advantages of 18-5 in shots, 11-0 in shots on goal, 9-3 in corner kicks, and 61/39 in possession.
In net,
Elaina LaMacchia (66:44) and
Allie Strottman (23:16) combined for the fourth shutout of the season for the defense, which played so well that none of the five Phoenix shots made their way to the goalkeeper's hands.
Up next, the Panthers play their final game of the regular season, welcoming Oakland to Engelmann April 5. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. as game two of a women's/men's doubleheader and will include "Senior Day" festivities.
