CLEVELAND, Ohio – Behind one of the most efficient offensive showings of the season including 46 kills and a .416 attack percentage, the Milwaukee volleyball team sailed past Cleveland State 3-0 on Friday evening.
"We had a really clean match tonight," head coach
Susie Johnson said. "Rylie [Vaughn] did a nice job of running the offense and our attackers were aggressive. Overall, it was a great team effort. We were statistically balanced which was nice to see."
Milwaukee (12-6, 6-0 Horizon) had three players reach double-digit kill totals including
Madi Malone (12),
Carmen Heilemann (11), and
Ari Miller (11).
The Panthers spread the love early with all three attackers with four kills each in the first frame. Tied 15-15,
Rylie Vaughn served six straight to fuel the 6-1 run before Heilemann put away three straight kills for a 25-17 victory.
Malone took the reins in set two as she carried with eight kills and a .500 attack percentage. Up two,
Ari Miller recorded back-to-back service aces for a 17-13 advantage and Milwaukee rolled from there in a 25-17 set-two win.
The Vikings (6-11, 4-2 Horizon) fought early on in the third set but the Panthers were just too much as Milwaukee added 16 more kills, hitting .342. Heilemann did her damage in the third frame with seven kills on .545 hitting.
Jess Grabowski led the defense with 14 digs while Malone added eight and
Lauren Spaulding chipped in seven.
Vaughn totaled 39 assists in addition to five digs and a pair of service aces.
Kleja Cerniauskaite (6-0-8) and
Abby Koenen (5-0-11) were also efficient for Milwaukee in the sweep.
The Panthers look to carry the momentum back home as they host five consecutive home matches beginning on October 12 against UIC.
