MILWAUKEE, Wis. – For the second straight match, errors hurt the Milwaukee volleyball team as it fell to visiting Wright State 3-0 at the Klotsche Center. The Raiders took advantage of early leads and the Panthers could not recover on Tuesday afternoon.
"We need a little time to practice all together and get in sync with our offense and that begins tomorrow," head coach
Susie Johnson stated. "Having another opportunity to play is a good thing. We just have to get the team to just be in the moment and focus on the next one. It's a tough time and we just have to find a way to be resilient and regain some ground."
MKE (0-2, 0-2 Horizon League) took an early lead in the first set but a trio of errors put the Panthers in a 4-2 hole and then Wright State rallied from there. The Raiders used a handful of multiple-point scoring runs as they jumped ahead 20-11.
Jenna Miller and
Kleja Cerniauskaite sandwiched an
Ari Miller service ace, but again three straight attack errors did the Panthers in as Wright State won the first 25-16.
In the second, Wright State (2-0, 2-0 Horizon League) was nearly flawless on the attack, putting away 11 kills without an error for a .407 attack percentage. The Raiders ran out to a 10-3 lead and kept that distance the rest of the way as they pulled ahead 2-0 in the match with a 25-13 victory.
The Panthers again found themselves in an early hole in the third as Wright State scored the first four points behind a kill and three Milwaukee errors. The Raiders never looked back as they hit .222 with nine kills on their way to a 25-15 set win.
A. Miller totaled eight kills with a .389 attack percentage while Cerniauskaite put away five kills in 10 swings.
Jess Grabowski led the defense with 15 digs while
Emma Loveall added 12. Loveall added two kills in her collegiate debut.
Milwaukee will next hit the road on February 1-2 for a two-game series at Cleveland State. Live coverage links for the evening matchups can be found on MKEPanthers.com.
