Mati Jakscht capped off an impressive freshman campaign with 276 digs, which ranked fourth on the team and eight all-time for a Milwaukee freshman. The East Troy, Wis. native also totaled 66 assists and 22 service aces while tallying a .943 reception percentage in 406 attempts.
Jakscht shined in her collegiate debut, totaling 13 digs, five assists, and a pair of aces in a 3-2 win over Arkansas State on August 30, 2019.
Why did you choose to play volleyball at Milwaukee?
"I loved that it is close to home in an amazing city. The team dynamic felt like a family and the coaches are very passionate about the sport and winning."
What was your best experience so far with the Panthers?
"My best experience so far with the Panthers was having the longest winning streak in the country at one point, as well as having a winning record."
Do you have a favorite road trip? If so, what is it?
"South Dakota State was my favorite road trip because the AC went out on the bus and it created a lot of memories. We also won all of matches which made the trip worth it."
What is your most memorable match (at MKE or other)?
"The most memorable match for me was beating Green Bay in four sets in the conference tournament. We ran out of subs and still managed to pull the win even with an unusual lineup in."
Who is the most influential person in your volleyball career?
"The most influential person in my volleyball career is my high school volleyball coach Jeremy Weis. He made me the player I am today and worked us very hard in order to be ready to play at the next level. His passion for the game was contagious."
What are your plans after Milwaukee?
"I plan on going to optometry school in hopes of becoming an optometrist."
What was your very first job?
"I worked at McDonald's and it was actually a very fun job and taught me how to talk to people as well as work in a high-pace environment."
What are your hobbies outside of volleyball?
"I like to clean and organize everything."
What is your most unusual talent?
"Doing a handstand on one arm while throwing up a peace sign."
What is something you'd like others to know about your team?
"We really do have a great culture and all hang out all of the time. Everyone is super sweet and truly cares about how everyone is doing. We really are like a family."
What is your favorite season and why?
"My favorite season is fall because I love the cooler weather and the fall colors. I also love volleyball and football for obvious reasons. The vibes are immaculate."
