OXFORD, Ohio – Miami (OH) broke open the final game of the weekend series with seven runs in the fifth inning, providing the difference in claiming a 16-7 victory over the Milwaukee baseball team Sunday at McKie Field.
The Panthers (1-14) opened the door for the Redhawks (7-6) to take control, with all but one run in the decisive inning scoring as unearned.
For the third straight game, Milwaukee scored first, making it 1-0 on a home run in the third inning off the bat of
Adam LaRock.
The game turned quickly an inning later on Landon Stephens grand slam, but MKE did not go quietly.
Zach Nogalski drove in a run in the fourth and, after an RBI-double from LaRock and a run-scoring triple from
Nick Winter, the Panthers were down just two at 6-4 after batting in the fifth inning.
The Redhawks then quickly turned the momentum again, scoring those seven runs on just three hits, helped along by an error, a hit batter and three walks in the frame.
Milwaukee got things going again in the eighth, scoring twice on
Quinton Morris' single and again on a LaRock fielder's choice, but that was as close as they would get.
LaRock finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and a pair of runs scored to lead the offense.
Horizon League play is up next, with the Panthers returning to Ohio for a series at Wright State. First pitch Friday is set for 2 p.m. CST.
