EUGENE, Ore. – Nick Winter allowed just two runs in his five innings of work but the Milwaukee baseball team was unable to get anything going against Oregon, falling by a final score of 6-1 Sunday afternoon at PK Park.
The Panthers (1-11) held the Ducks (7-4) off the scoreboard for much of the game, but a late rally by the home team turned a 2-1 game in the seventh inning into a final score that was not indicative of how the game was played.
Winter (0-3) allowed two runs in the first but then settled in quickly, facing just one batter over the minimum through the next three innings, en route to posting four straight zeroes on the scoreboard. He finished with three K's in his outing.
"It was another gritty performance by Nick," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "He gave us a great opportunity today. Unfortunately, it was frustrating again because we just couldn't get anything going against their arms."
MKE made it a game in the top of the seventh, cutting the deficit in half on an RBI-single by
Mitchell Buban. The Panthers were unable to take advantage of the momentum shift, as the Ducks plated two in the seventh and two more in the eighth to claim their seventh consecutive victory.
Six different Panthers had a hit on the day, with
Mike Ferri adding the run scored following a base hit.
Up next, the season-opening road trip continues next weekend at Miami (Ohio). Game one of a four-game set is scheduled for 4 p.m. CST Friday.
