MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Defending league and tournament champion Green Bay was selected to repeat as the Horizon League released the 2019 volleyball preseason poll on Wednesday afternoon. The Milwaukee volleyball team was predicted to finish seventh, voted by the league coaches.
The Panthers, who finished fifth in the league in 2018, return 15 players including 12 who appeared in at least 50 sets.
Four different teams earned a first-place vote, led by Green Bay, who earned five of those votes and 75 points overall. Northern Kentucky was close behind, earning two first-place votes and 67 total poll points.
UIC (66 points) and Oakland (49 points) received the remaining two first-place votes.
Cleveland State and Wright State were selected fifth and sixth, respectively, while IUPUI and Youngstown State rounded out the preseason poll.
Milwaukee kicks off the 2019 campaign in Nashville at the Bruiser Showcase. The Panthers face Arkansas State at 9:30 am on Friday, August 30 in the season opener.
