MILWAUKEE, Wis. – For the eighth time in the last 10 years, the Milwaukee volleyball team has received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, the organization announced Monday afternoon.
As a team, the Panthers bolstered a cumulative grade-point average of 3.699 and were one of seven Horizon League Institutions and one of 189 Division I squads to earn the prestigious honor. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
In all, 16 members on the Black & Gold roster posted a GPA of 3.0 or better this past semester, including 13 with a 3.5 GPA or higher and two with a perfect 4.0. A total of eight student-athletes were also named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll this past spring.
MKE will kickoff the season in just a little over a month at the Bruiser Showcase in Nashville, Tenn. hosted by Belmont.
