MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men's soccer program mourns the loss of Jimmy Banks, who played for the Panthers during the 1985 and 1986 seasons.
A well-known player, coach and mentor of the game of soccer in the Milwaukee area, Banks was inducted into the UWM Hall of Fame in 1999.
The Panthers send their thoughts and condolences to the Banks family at this difficult time.
One of the most talented soccer players to come out of the city of Milwaukee, Banks was a two-year forward/midfield star on the MKE men's soccer team and was co-captain his senior year in 1986. That followed two seasons at UW-Parkside, where he earned All- American honors.
A Milwaukee Custer High School graduate, Banks was the first-ever Wisconsin high school player to receive All-America status and was two-time All-WISL selection and All-Mideast selection at Milwaukee. He was a member of the 1985 National Sports Festival North Squad and a 1986 member of the Collegiate All-Star Team that represented the U.S. in Miami Cup
Banks went on to play for the U.S. National Team in the 1987 Pan American Games, the 1987 World University Games and the 1990 World Cup. He made 26 international appearances in total and also played for the Milwaukee Wave.
