League Leaders Come To Klotsche Thursday

Panthers battled Raiders to the end first time around

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's basketball team starts another weekend homestand with a Thursday contest against Wright State at 7 pm from the Klotsche Center. The Raiders enter the contest leading the Horizon League, standing at 10-1 in league play and ranked eighth in this week's Mid-Major Top-25. The Panthers fell just four points short of WSU back in the first meet on Jan. 5 in Dayton.

LOOKING AT THE RAIDERS
Wright State is up to No. 8 in this week's Mid-Major poll after two more conference wins last week to up their record to 18-5 overall. The Raiders have rattled off five straight and sit at 10-1 in league play - a one-game lead for first place.

WSU owns the league's top scoring offense at 71.6 points/game. They also rank first in rebounding at 44.2/game, with senior Symone Simmons spearheading the effort with a league-leading 9.0 per contest.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET
Ryaen Johnson turned in a career performance in another incredibly close contest for Milwaukee Saturday afternoon as Wright State - ranked No. 10 in this week's Mid-Major poll - did just enough down the stretch to hold off MKE in a 61-57 contest from the Nutter Center.

The Panthers (5-9, 0-3 Horizon) took the league leaders to the brink, having a response for every Wright State (12-4, 4-0 Horizon) run but just couldn't get their shot to fall in the final two possessions before the Raiders hit their free throws late to pull away over the final seconds.

Johnson was the leader of the pack for MKE Saturday, finishing with a career-high 11 points and 11 rebounds for her first-career double-double. 10 of her rebounds were on the defensive side of the ball, as Johnson also tied her career high with five blocks in an outstanding all-around showing.

SERIES HISTORY
After splitting last year's series, WSU holds a 30-27 edge over MKE in the all-time series.

UP NEXT
Milwaukee hosts Northern Kentucky Saturday at 2 pm from the Klotsche Center in MKE's annual "Pink Out" game.
