Panthers Look To Shore Up Postseason Seeding Thursday At UIC

MKE downed Flames earlier this year in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE – Coming off a remarkable final home stand, the Milwaukee women's basketball team will begin life on the road Thursday with a 7 pm contest against UIC from the recently renamed Credit Union 1 Arena. The Panthers will be looking for a season sweep of the Flames, having claimed a 72-53 win in Milwaukee back on Jan. 26.

LOOKING AT THE FLAMES
First-year head coach Tasha Pointer hasn't had things easy, inheriting a squad that won just one game in conference play a season ago. The Flames have shown improvement under their new coach, but have been bitten hard by the injury bug this season as just seven people played in the first match up against Milwaukee.

Senior guard Brittany Byrd has been the leader for the Flames for a number of years and the Chicago native will certainly look to close out her career on a strong note. Byrd leads UIC and is fourth in the league in scoring at 13.8 points/game.

UIC also has an impressive youngster on this year's roster as sophomore Jada Nneji leads the league with 66 blocks on the year - just one more than Milwaukee's Ryaen Johnson.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET
Thirteen Panthers found their way into the scoring column as the Milwaukee women's basketball team cruised to a 72-53 win over UIC Saturday afternoon from the Klotsche Center.

Playing in front of a host of former Panther greats on hand for Alumni Day, Milwaukee (10-10, 5-4 Horizon) shot nearly 60-percent from the floor in the first half to build a 42-23 lead at the break and held UIC (3-17, 1-8 Horizon) at bay the rest of the way, leading by double digits the entirety of the final 20 minutes.

SERIES HISTORY
The Panthers have had UIC's number of late, claiming the last seven in the series to up their lead to 34-21. In fact, MKE's average margin of victory over the last four wins over the Flames is an impressive 21.4 points, with the closest contest coming last year at the Klotsche Center - a 59-44 Milwaukee victory.

UP NEXT
MKE will close out the regular season Saturday with a 1 pm tip off at IUPUI from the Jungle.
