Penguins Take Down Panthers

Milwaukee returns home for final homestand of the season starting Thursday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Alison Smolinski went 6-7 from behind the arc and finished with a game-high 21 points on her "Senior Day" to lead Youngstown State to a 67-47 win over the Milwaukee women's basketball team Sunday afternoon from the Beeghly Center.

Milwaukee (12-13, 7-7 Horizon) now settles for a split in the season series with YSU (20-6, 12-3 Horizon) after a cold shooting spell during the second and third quarters proved too much in the road loss.

The Penguins finished the regular season a perfect 9-0 at home in conference play and 15-1 overall on their home court.

MKE connected on a season-low two 3-pointers, in what proved to be an ice-cold shooting performance after the first quarter.

Ryaen Johnson led the way for Milwaukee with seven points and 10 rebounds – her third double-digit rebounding performance of the season. She also added another two blocks to move her within two of tying Steph Kostowicz's single-season record of 61 with at least four games left to play.

Alyssa Moore came off the bench to tally a career-best seven points on 3-4 shooting. The sophomore also chimed in with two steals, one rebound and one assist.

Smolinski led all players with 21 points, helping lead YSU to 11 made threes on the day while shooting 52-percent from behind the arc.

Milwaukee now returns home for its final homestand of the regular season, starting with a Thursday contest at 7 pm against Detroit Mercy from the Klotsche Center.
