Panthers Take On Red-Hot Penguins Sunday

Milwaukee took down YSU first time around

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's basketball team wraps up its weekend swing through Ohio Sunday with a noon Central contest against Youngstown State from the Beeghly Center. The Panthers and Penguins have had a number of memorable battles over the years, including this year's first showdown - a 71-68 MKE win in overtime in the Klotsche Center.

LOOKING AT THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State heads into Sunday fresh off a big 70-59 win over Green Bay on Friday. That moves YSU to 19-6 overall and into sole possession of second place in the Horizon League at 11-3.

The Penguins are an impressive 14-1 at home on the season, with that lone loss coming at the hands of Yale, 58-56, back in November.

YSU has the highest scoring offense in the conference at 70.3 points/game, while also limiting teams to just 56.4 points/game against - second best in the league ranks.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET
Freshman Megan Walstad scored a career-high 20 points and recorded the first career double-double of her young career to help lead Milwaukee to a 71-68 overtime win over league-leading Youngstown State Thursday afternoon in front of 3,089 fans as part of School Day inside the Klotsche Center.

Milwaukee (6-9, 1-3 Horizon) stymied the Penguins (12-4, 4-1 Horizon) offense for much of the game and built a big lead before fending off a furious YSU run by scoring the final six points in overtime.

It also marks the first conference loss of the season for Youngstown State, with MKE knocking off another team ranked in the Mid Major Top-25 and ending YSU's five game winning streak.

SERIES HISTORY
MKE holds a 28-15 all-time edge over YSU. The two teams have had a number of memorable games of late, with each of the last nine contests being decided by eight points or fewer.

UP NEXT
Milwaukee returns home for its final home stand of the season, hosting UIC and Oakland this coming Thursday and Saturday.
