New Year Starts With Road Trip For Milwaukee

Panthers visit NKU in first conference road swing

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's basketball team will start the new year on the road, playing two games in two states starting Thursday. It all starts with a contest just across the Cincinnati border as MKE takes on Northern Kentucky from BB&T Arena at 6 pm Central. Fans can watch Thursday's game live online on ESPN+ and listen to the radio broadcast online at MKEPanthers.com, with Matt Menzl on the call.

LOOKING AT THE NORSE
The Norse enter Thursday's contest with an incredibly hard-luck start to the season. Despite a 2-10 overall record, five of their losses have been by five points or less. NKU started conference play on the road, registering a 67-49 win at UIC before a 70-48 setback at IUPUI.

As has been their norm, the Norse have primarily been involved in low-scoring affairs, averaging 55.6 points/game (eighth in the Horizon League) and allowing just 61.3/game (third in the HL). Going with the theme of their strong defense, NKU has been strong on the boards with a +5.6 rebounding margin thus far - second best in the conference.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET
The Milwaukee women's basketball team nearly erased an 18-point second-half deficit but needed one more minute to complete the comeback in a 60-57 loss to Northern Kentucky Saturday afternoon from the Klotsche Center.

After an ice-cold first half, the Panthers (17-7, 8-4 Horizon) went back to their impressive shooting ways, connecting on a season-high 10 three-pointers to cut the gap all the way to two points late in the game. But, Milwaukee – playing without preseason all-league selection Steph Kostowicz out with injury – needed just one more possession to pull off what would have been one of the largest comebacks in program history.

SERIES HISTORY
Milwaukee is 4-2 all-time against one of the Horizon League's newest members. Last year's two contests were both low-scoring affairs, with MKE winning on the road, 52-49, before the Norse won in Milwaukee, 60-57.

UP NEXT
The Panthers will wrap up their first conference road trip Saturday at Wright State.
