Panthers Open 2018 With Exhibition Victory Over Loyola

Freshmen account for all three goals

CHICAGO, Ill. - The 2018 Milwaukee women's soccer exhibition season opened with a 3-0 shutout of Loyola Chicago Tuesday afternoon at Loyola Soccer Park.

A total of 25 different players saw the field, with three first-half goals standing up for all of the scoring on the day. The contest was halted in the 70th minute due to rain.

Newcomers accounted for all of the scoring and did so in a span of under 12 minutes midway through the first half.

Freshman Haley Johnson got things going at the 14:22 mark, firing a shot from 30 yards out into the top right corner to make it 1-0.

Classmate Jelena Sever then made her presence known, netting a pair of goals in less than five minutes on the clock.

Her first came at the 21:13 mark, heading in a corner kick from Gaby Schwartz to make it 2-0. She followed that up at the 25:54 mark, finishing off a cross from Taylor Tabbert with another header to provide for the final scoring in the 3-0 decision.

The Milwaukee offense clicked right away, firing off a 9-to-1 advantage over the first 45 minutes while finishing with a 12-to-3 advantage on the day.

Sever and Johnson both paced the offense with three shots each (two on goal), with Julia Barajas also recording a pair on frame.

Olivia Davies got the start in goal and worked a scoreless first half. Allie Strottman finished up the final 24:12 for the clean sheet on the day.

Milwaukee finishes up the exhibition slate with a contest against Northern Iowa Saturday in Rockford, Ill. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
