CHICAGO, Ill. – Freddy Lorenzen and
Ryan Berger combined to shut out Loyola Chicago as the Milwaukee men's soccer team opened the 2018 exhibition season with a 1-0 victory Tuesday at Loyola Soccer Park.
Vuk Latinovich netted the only goal of the contest in the 68
th minute on a penalty kick.
"I was pretty pleased with the performance tonight," head coach
Kris Kelderman said. "It's only the fourth day into things and knowing we entered the match with some fatigue due to the training we've had, the boys were pretty good."
Numerous newcomers saw the field on a day in which the Panther offense outshot the Ramblers 14-to-5 overall, including 9-to-3 after halftime.
"We played, I believe, 23 guys, so it was a good experience to have the guys get familiar with each other under game pressure," Kelderman said. "It was a great day for evaluation for the staff as well."
The offense put up a balanced attack, with 10 different players recording shots, led by a team-high three from Latinovich.
Suad Suljic and
Josh Kaye each added a pair.
The 67:54 mark provided the difference, with Latinovich netting the spot kick following a handball in the box.
Milwaukee wraps up exhibition play with a home contest against Parkside, starting at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.
