DAYTON, Ohio – The Milwaukee Panthers dropped a 10-2 decision to the UIC Flames at Nischwitz Stadium Friday evening at the Horizon League Tournament.
 
After withstanding elimination with a win last night against Youngstown State, four unearned runs against the Flames ended up being the demise of the Panthers.
 
"With a pitching staff like that, they're not going to let you off the hook, but we let them off the hook beating ourselves with the unearned runs given up in the third," said head coach Scott Doffek. "Consistency has been a bit of a battle for us throughout the season, and today was just one of those days."
 
Milwaukee fell behind early when the Flames broke open the game with a seven spot on four hits and two Milwaukee miscues in third inning leading to four unearned runs.
 
In the top half of the fourth, the Panthers answered back with a leadoff homerun from Colin Kreiter – his fourth of the season. The Panthers put the next two batters on base thanks to a UIC error and walk, but were stranded after a fly out to center field to end the inning.
 
Milwaukee struggled to string together hits against UIC's Red Birlingmair, plating just one additional run in the seventh.
 
Birlingmair finished the game with five scattered hits for two runs while striking out six in seven frames.
 
The loss brings an end to the 2018 season and the conclusion to the career of four seniors: Ben Chally, Brandon Parr, Austin Schulfer and John Moynihan.
 
"We have a good nucleolus of the team returning, but more importantly a good group of guys coming back," said Doffek. "And we have to give our seniors a lot of credit for this ."
