Panthers Send Seniors Off With a 12-5 Win

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee baseball team tallied double-digit runs on back-to-back days this time defeating Oakland by a final score of 12-5 on Senior Day from Henry Aaron Field.

The Panthers (24-26, 13-12) put up big numbers in the run column in the fifth and eigth innings, to solidify a win over Oakland (15-31, 12-14) and more importantly the No. 3 seed in the Horizon League Tournament.

Milwaukee fell behind early in the game, but the Panthers chipped away at the deficit and stayed within reach thanks to some solid relief pitching.

"Alex (McIntosh) and Mike (Edwards) did a great job for us today," Doffek said. "Alex came in with runners in scoring position and got us out of a jam, and Mike put up three zeroes to keep us in the lead."

The Panthers trailed 3-1 after the Golden Grizzlies put up a three-spot in the third, but the Panthers stayed resilient by recording single run innings in the third and fourth before exploding for four runs in the fifth.

After two singles and a walk, the Panthers had the bases loaded and one out for freshman Mitch Buban. Buban had a Deja-vu moment when he was hit by the pitch (identical to Friday's game) giving Milwaukee the outright lead, 5-4.

Trevor Schwecke knocked in the next two runs with a double deep to left center. Schwecke finished with a game-high 3-for-5, three RBI performance.

The Golden Grizzlies gained a run in the eighth inning but the Panthers poured on five additional runs, putting the game out of reach and earning a win for the seniors and team.

Senior Ben Chally finished the day going 2-for-5 with three RBI, and Brandon Parr entered the top of the ninth inning and struck out the side.

"All our seniors (Ben Chally, John Moynihan, Brandon Parr and Austin Schulfer) are just really selfless guys," said Doffek. There's not selfish bone in their body and to me when you have guys that are team first people, it bleeds into your program which makes it an honor to coach these guys."

Next up, Milwaukee will travel to Dayton, Ohio where Wright State will host this year's 2018 Horizon League Tournament. As the No. 3 seed, the Panthers will take on No. 6 Northern Kentucky on Wed., May 23. First pitch is set for approximately 3 p.m. (CT).
