Flames Edge Out Panthers, 2-0

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Milwaukee baseball team dropped another close game to UIC, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Granderson Stadium.

Milwaukee (16-22, 9-9) received another solid outing from the pitching staff, but were unable to get anything going offensively against UIC (23-14, 11-7). UIC picked up where they left off yesterday after throwing two complete game shutouts by adding another shutout today for the series sweep.

"UIC's Jacob Key did a great job of dominating the bottom of the zone, and if we happened to square it up, it was right at someone" said head coach Scott Doffek. "(Jared) Relaitis was very good as well and gave us a great start."

The Panthers kept themselves within striking distance throughout the game while the pitching staff scattered just seven hits and gave up two runs.

Milwaukee's Mitch Buban posted a hit to lead off the sixth inning, but was unable to advance after two consecutive fly outs to the outfield. Buban started and ended the inning after trying to make something happen and get into scoring position by stealing, but was gunned out by catcher Aaron Ackerman. From there, the Flames held Milwaukee hitless and hang on for the win.

Milwaukee will finally get off the road and begin their 13-game homes stand beginning Tues., May 1.

"We are excited to get off the road, sleep in our own beds, and play the remainder of the season at home," said Doffek. "I'm very excited for the next few weeks moving into tournament play."

The Panthers will play two non-conference games against Illinois State and Lakeland on May 1-2, and will host its first conference series against Northern Kentucky beginning Fri., May 4.
