DAYTON, Ohio – Junior
Jared Reklaitis and the Panther pitching staff delivered a 3-2 victory over Wright State to close out the series with a win Sunday at Nischwitz Stadium.
Milwaukee (7-14, 3-3) held the Raiders (13-8, 4-2) scoreless through seven innings while maintaining a three run lead.
Jared Reklaitis (1-2) scattered four hits over 7.0 innings, and held the Raiders to just two runs and struck out four before being relieved. Wright State threatened by scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but the Panthers shut down any hopes of a comeback with their bullpen closing it out for the win.
"Jared did a fantastic job all day," said head coach
Scott Doffek. "He pounded the zone with three pitches and kept a good offense at bay."
In the last two frames, the Panthers utilized three different pitchers to hold the Raiders with
Brandon Parr earning his second save of the season. The three pitchers gave up just two hits and struck out two.
"We have to give our bullpen a lot of credit for that win," Doffek said. "They came in at very high leveraged situations and all of them executed."
UWM scored in just two innings of the game, but it was enough for the Panther pitching staff.
Tyler Bordner began the top of the second inning with a double to left center, and scored after a fielder's choice and throwing error by the Raider's catcher.
Milwaukee picked up two runs the next inning when freshman
Zach Nogalski hammered a solo shot to right field for this second of the season. After
Mitch Buban singled and swiped second,
Ben Chally singled to left center giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
The Raiders managed a hit in the bottom of the ninth, but left the game-tying run at second after
Brandon Parr struck out the next batter for the save.
UWM continue its road warrior like ways as they travel to Rochester, Mich. for a three-game series against Oakland beginning Thursday, March 29 at 2 p.m. central.
