YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – For the second time in as many days, the Milwaukee baseball team put up double-digit runs leading to a 14-7 victory over Youngstown State Sunday afternoon at Eastwood Field in Ohio.
The Milwaukee Panthers (6-12, 2-1) offense showed consistency up and down the lineup pounding out a total of 16 hits on the day, eight of those coming from the first four hitters including a four-hit day for freshman
Mitch Buban.
The Penguins (2-15, 1-2) took an early 3-0 lead right from the get-go in the bottom of the first, but a six-run second propelled the offensive prowl for the Panthers towards a series victory.
"I thought we did a nice job today in the box, and we made them work for outs all day today," said head coach
Scott Doffek. "Jarred [Reklaitis] came in and did a nice job for us early to allow us to take control of the game."
Ahead 6-3 after three, Milwaukee began the inning with single and double from Buban and
Devin Rybacki.
Trevor Schwecke singled to left field to score Rybacki, but not before Buban crossed home plate on a wild pitch. Two batters later,
Ben Chally also scored on a Penguins wild pitch and increased the lead, 9-3.
Youngstown State added single runs in the fourth and fifth inning and two runs in the last frame, but it wasn't enough to keep up with the Panthers high powered offense who also scored five runs in the last three innings.
Panthers' Reklaitis improved to 1-1 on the year pitching 4.2 innings, allowing two runs, three walks and eight strikeouts.
Milwaukee continues conference play beginning Fri., March 23 at Wright State. The first of the three-game series against the Raiders is set for 5:30 p.m. at Nischwitz Stadium.
