Panthers Win Series After 4-2 Win Over UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A combination of efficient pitching and clutch hitting led to a Milwaukee baseball victory as the Panthers took game three, 4-2, in the three-game series over UAB Saturday at Young Memorial Field Saturday afternoon.

It was a full team effort for the Panthers as Milwaukee (4-10) utilized six different pitchers that allowed just two runs and three hits against a UAB (6-8) team that exploded for 10 runs in Friday's game two. Offensively, the Milwaukee bats produced four runs on 11 hits, including some timely hitting in the third inning for three runs.

"Today was a great way to finish off the weekend," said head coach Scott Doffek. "I thought we showed a little more maturity in the box today and our bullpen did a good job of coming in and putting up zeros when we needed it."

After zeros in the first two innings of play, the Panthers began the third with back-to-back singles from Oakland Scanlan and Zach Nogalski and the top of the order coming up. Mike Ferri picked up his third double of the season with a rope to right center to score Scanlan and put Milwaukee on the score board first. Trevor Schwecke continued his hot hitting at the plate this weekend with a single to center scoring Ferri and Nogalski for RBI's number seven and eight on the young season.

UAB answered back in the bottom of the third scoring one run on two hits. The Blazers started the inning with a double and single to drive in the only run of the inning to cut the lead to 3-1, Milwaukee.

In the bottom of the fifth, UAB scored one run and looked to go ahead after giving up a hit and allowing three free passes, but Alex McIntosh closed the door getting Blazers' Colton Schultz to fly out for the third out and maintain a 3-2 lead.

Junior Oakland Scanlan gave the Panthers a little wiggle room with a leadoff solo homerun in the top of the eighth to right field and give Milwaukee a two-run lead.

In their last chance at-bats, the Blazers were sat down in order as Brandon Parr picked up his first save of the season.

Scanlan led all hitters going 3-for-4, while Mike Ferri and Zach Nogalski chipped with two hits apiece.

Next up, Milwaukee will take a day trip to Illinois for a single game against the Fighting Illini at Illinois Field Tuesday, March 13. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
