INDIANAPOLIS – Wright State has secured the regular season title and the No. 1 seed as the field has been set for the 2018 Horizon League Men's Soccer Championship with the conclusion of the League season on Friday. WSU will host the semifinals and championship matches of the Horizon League Men's Soccer Championship Nov. 8 and 10 at Alumni Field at Rinzler Student Sports Complex.
The nationally-ranked Raiders clinched the No. 1 spot for the second time in three season with a record of 6-1-1 in HL play after a 4-0 win over Milwaukee at home and are No. 21 in the country with an overall record of 13-2-2. This is just the second time in program history that Wright State has hosted the Horizon League Championship. WSU will play its semifinal match at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 8 against the lowest-remaining seed after the quarterfinal matches.
UIC secured the No. 2 seed with a League record of 5-2-1, its fourth consecutive top-2 finish in the #HLMSOC standings. The Flames will also receive a bye into the semifinals and will play the second match on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET against the highest-remaining seed after the quarterfinal matches.
The 2018 #HLWSOC Championship begins on Monday, Nov. 5 with quarterfinal matches hosted by No. 3 seed Oakland and No. 4 seed Green Bay. The Golden Grizzlies enter postseason play with a 5-3 record in League play after a thrilling 1-0 overtime over the Phoenix in the regular-season finale and a 9-6-3 mark overall, while Green Bay is 8-5-2 overall this season with a 4-3-1 mark in HL matches.
Oakland will host No. 6 seed Milwaukee, who ended the season with a 3-4-1 League record, while the Phoenix will welcome No. 5 seed IUPUI who comes into the postseason with a 4-3-1 record in League play after coming off a season where they did not win a Horizon League match. Both quarterfinal matches will begin at 7 p.m. local time.
