Gerum Leads Panthers on Senior Day

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Senior Kyle Gerum tallied a strong performance with an event win and two second place finishes Saturday in a 173-127 loss to Green Bay at the Klotsche Natatorium.
 
Gerum started his day with a win in the 50-yard freestyle. The senior raced neck-in-neck with Green Bay's Ben Redman, but Gerum won in a photo finish edging out Redman with a time of 21.18 to Redman's 21.59. Fellow Panthers topped out the podium finishes as Ahmed Ghallab (21.86) and Jasper Appleton (22.00) followed in order.
 
Then, in the 100 freestyle, Gerum finished in second place with a time of 46.69. Rounding out the day, Gerum helped the 200 freestyle relay squad out to another second place finish, timing in at 1:25.16.
 
Milwaukee took the top two spots in the 500 freestyle. Colin Duffy touched the boards with a final time of 4:45.19, while Jacob Fase came in right behind at 4:46.98.
 
In the 100 butterfly, Nofel took the top spot in 51.55 – edging out Green Bay's Paul Sadergaski by three tenths of a second in a great race.
 
The Panthers took 2-3-4 in the 200-yard butterfly. Patrick Kelly led the way in 1:53.94, while Ryan Menninga (1:55.16) and newcomer Jackie Zablocki (1:58.79) finished in third and fourth, respectively.
 
In diving, Dakota Skenandore led Milwaukee on 3-meter with a score of 278.47 for first place, while Spencer Peronto tallied a score of 272.62 for second. In the 1-meter event, Skenandore finished in second place scoring a 291.45, while Draven Feustel scored a 277.95 for third place.
 
Up next, Milwaukee close out their regular season at Stevens Point on Friday, Feb. 2. The Panthers are Pointers are set to begin at 5 p.m. at the UWSP Aquatics Center.
